The quest for the elusive 10 Years of Magic Panels and Kits from Ruby Star Society
The Ruby Star Society designers celebrated working together on fabrics, and all sorts of delightful goodies with the Ten Years of Magic Panel. It is made up of fussy-cuttable squares in a range of sizes from 2 to 4.5 inches and showcased motifs from some of the designer's most loved fabrics in the Ruby Star Society and Cotton + Steel back catalogue.
The panels are as scarce as hens teeth right now and my stock here at The Next Stitch sold out in two days. While Ruby Star Society have announced more are on the way in November (YAY!), things aren't quite as clear when it comes to whether more of this clever quilt kit will be made available.
At 80 x80 inches its a big quilt, but the design utilises every single square from the panel - don't you just love that there's no waste? There are five different block types as a nod to the five designers: Melody Miller, Rashida Coleman-Hale, Alexia Marcelle-Abegg, Kim Kight and Sarah Watts, and the layout creates a subtle X to represent the number 10 for their anniversary. The colourful fabrics are all from the RSS Speckled range.
The kits were beautifully presented in a keepsake box, with some sweet stickers, the pattern booklet, the panel and all those lush Speckled coordinates.
Unfortunately, by the time the kits arrived in store, they had sold out internationally and not able to be restocked.
Here's some of FAQs and answers that I have been getting the most.
Can I just buy the pattern?
This is the question I get asked most of all. At the time of writing the printed pattern has also sold out internationally. After a flurry of emails and direct messages, I am hoping that Moda will release a PDF version of the pattern for makers to purchase in the coming weeks.
Watch this space. As soon as I hear anything more I will link it HERE.
Will you be getting more of the boxed kits?
The honest answer to this one is, I just don't know. At the time of writing it still isn't possible to re-order them so it doesn't look like Moda Fabrics will be making any more up.
Will you be getting more of the individual panels, and can I pay for one now?
Yes. But not quite yet. I have ordered several more bolts of the panels which are due to arrive late November. I don't like to sit on people's money for months and months, so I will list them for pre-order closer to their arrival date. Check back in September. The listing on the shop is here, or better yet, sign up for my weekly email as I will let my insiders know about them first.
Can you cut me a kit?
If and when I have confirmation that the pattern is available to makers I will crunch the numbers and create a listing for fabric-only kits. I have yardage of all the coordinating shades of Speckled available right now and more on the way just in case. Send me an email to shop@thenextstitch.com.au if you would like to go on the wait list to be notified.
Giving Back
And last of all as the 10 Years of Magic Panels were part of the RSS team's Projects with a Purpose series, I donated part of the proceeds of the sale of each panel to The Smith Family. The Smith Family are an Australian charity which works to support children and young people living at a disadvantage with education expenses, helping them stay in school and thereby break the poverty cycle. I have linked the tax receipt here.
