Digital Aunty Thel quilt pattern by Wendy Wild of The Next Stitch
Aunty Thel is a trip around-the-world quilt variation based on a postage stamp block design. Wendy's great aunt, Aunty Thel, became a widow at quite a young age and decided to take up international travel in the 1960s and 1970s. Imagine travelling the world in those days! Her love for travel was second only to her love for her nieces and nephews which, like the rounds in this design kept her circling back home.
The pattern includes step-by-step instructions for hand piecing, with lots of helpful images and two design options:
- Option one lets you float all of your favourite fabrics on the low-volume background
- Option two is a more coordinated look that pays careful attention to the relative value of the feature fabrics
