Valorie Wells - Kantha Cloth

Valorie Well's Kantha Cloth is made in India from two layers of cotton. The face side is printed with a myriad of her prints inspired by her travels and the backing is a soft coordinating cotton solid. The two layers are stitched together, resulting in a wonderful kaleidoscope of pattern and embroidery texture.

Kantha was traditionally handmade by women and passed down from generation to generation. It is an ancient technique which originated in Bangladesh and West Bengal where saris and other garments that were no longer wearable are stitched together to create warm bedding.
